Privacy policy

There is one form on this website. This page sets out exactly what it collects, what happens to it afterwards, and what you can ask me to do about it.

What this covers

This policy covers this website and the enquiry form on it — the practice of Irene Jabotinskia, a notary public and paralegal serving Newmarket, York Region and the Greater Toronto Area.

Collecting personal information in the course of a commercial activity in Canada is governed by PIPEDA — the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. What follows is how that applies here, in practice, in plain words.

What the form collects

Only the fields you can see on it. Nothing is gathered quietly in the background.

  • Your name — so I know who I am replying to.

  • Your phone number — the fastest way to reach you back.

  • Your email address — optional, and used only if you fill it in.

  • What you need help with — whichever service you pick from the list.

  • Your preferred language — Russian or English, so the reply comes back in the right one.

  • Your message — a free-text box you write yourself.

Please do not send documents or ID through the form

The message box is free text, and whatever you type into it travels as an ordinary email. Write enough for me to understand the situation — and no more than that.

Do not paste in a passport, a driver's licence, a SIN, banking details, immigration file numbers, or a scan of a document. Bring those to the appointment, or call and we will arrange a safe way to hand them over.

Why it is collected

Solely to answer your enquiry and, if you decide to go ahead, to arrange the appointment. That is the whole purpose.

There is no mailing list on this site. You will not be added to one, and nothing you send is used for marketing.

What happens to it

When you press send, the enquiry leaves this website for a mail-forwarding service, which delivers it to the practice's inbox. That service carries the message; it is not given it for any purpose of its own.

The website itself is hosted by Vercel, so a submission passes through Vercel's infrastructure on the way. Their systems keep the ordinary technical records any web host keeps — that a request was made, and whether it succeeded.

Your information is not sold, and it is not shared with anyone for marketing, advertising or list-building. It would only be disclosed where the law requires it, or where you ask me to pass something on for you.

Cookies and tracking

This site sets no cookies. It runs no analytics, no advertising pixels, no session recording and no third-party tracking scripts of any kind. Even the fonts are served from this site rather than from a font network, so opening a page does not announce your visit to anybody else.

That is why there is no cookie banner here: there is nothing to consent to. It also means I cannot tell you which pages you read — I genuinely do not know.

The form's spam check

The form carries two quiet checks. Both involve collecting something, so they are written down here rather than left unsaid.

There is a hidden field a person never sees and an automated script usually fills in — if it comes back filled, the submission is discarded. And the page counts the seconds between the form appearing and you pressing send; a form completed faster than anyone could actually type it is discarded too.

Nothing else is measured. There is no captcha, and neither check stores anything on your device.

How long it is kept

An enquiry is kept for as long as it takes to deal with what you asked about — and, where a matter goes ahead, for as long as the professional obligations attached to that matter require.

If you would rather your enquiry were deleted once the question is answered, say so and it will be.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA you can, at any point:

  • Ask what personal information about you is held, and ask for a copy of it.

  • Ask for anything inaccurate to be corrected.

  • Withdraw your consent and ask for your enquiry to be deleted — keeping in mind that once it is withdrawn I may no longer be able to help you with the matter.

  • Complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you are not satisfied with how a request was handled.

Just ask — by phone, or in writing. I will confirm who you are first, so that nobody can obtain your information by pretending to be you, and then answer within a reasonable time.

Confidentiality — and what a website enquiry is not

Sending a message through this form does not create a solicitor–client or paralegal–client relationship. Until such a relationship is established, what you send is not covered by professional privilege — so please keep that in mind when deciding how much detail to include.

Once you are a client, the professional duty of confidentiality applies to your matter in the ordinary way.

Nothing on this website is legal advice.

Calls are answered in Russian and English. Ask for a privacy request and it will be dealt with the same way as any other.
